Me: Guess what’s in February?
My Fiancé: I don’t know, Valentine’s Day?
Me: No, but it’s almost as good as Valentine’s Day. Actually, I change my mind, it’s actually equally as good.
My Fiancé: I give up.
Me: GIRL SCOUT COOKIE SEASON!
Yes, it’s almost that time of year. I don’t know how the Girl Scouts of America got my e-mail, but I’m super glad they have it because they just sent me an e-mail letting me know that Girl Scout Cookie Season starts February 8th, 2013.
Is this date on my calendar?
Don’t be ridiculous, I’m not THAT obsessed with their cookies.
(I’m completely lying, I am that obsessed with Girl Scout Cookies, February 8th is marked on my calendar as “Cookie Day” with, like, 8 exclamation marks.)
But what if you don’t really know any eight year old girls? What if your siblings/kids are all grown? What if you’re not an elementary school teacher or a children’s librarian or a DARE officer? What do you do when you don’t have a sash-wearing, badge-earning, freckled-face button-nose, braids-sporting hook-up?
Meet the Cookies: Your cookie menu. It looks like they have 11 types of cookies this year, but the only two kinds I care about are Thin Mints and Samoas.
Vote For Your Favorite Cookie: This was really hard, I had to choose between Thin Mints and Samoas. The Sophie’s Choice of cookie choosing! I eeny-meeny-miny-moed it and went with Thin Mints.
It turns out Thin Mints and Samoas are neck and neck right now (at the time of writing, each had 24% of the vote ) with Tagalogs at a distant-ish 3rd with 15% and Trefoils a way distant 4th with 7%. None of the other cookies had more than 3% of the vote (which makes me think Girl Scout Cookie bakers could stand to mix it up a little bit in the kitchen. I mean, come on, who absolutely NEEDS to buy a box of Lemonades? Come on.)
Find Us: Come Feb 8th, you’ll be able to use this to FIND THE COOKIES.
Videos: A cute video about cookies winning stuff (the cookies are supposed to be stand ins for the girl scouts, the message being that buying cookies supports their future.) It’s a pleasant time waster.
Bookmarks: This is handy, you can find cookies by distance, by date, and best of all there’s a WORLDWIDE GIRL SCOUT COOKIE BOOTH MAP!!! Things just got real.
Settings: You set your zipcode and choose your search radius, availability date, etc. There’s also a Cookie Notifications button. I’m leaving that bad boy ON.
Follow Us: You can follow Girl Scouts on Facebook, Twitter, the usual suspects.
I can’t be the only one excited about Girl Scout Cookie Season. What about you guys? Downloading the app? Any special Girl Scout Cookie traditions/recipes/memories?
